Biography

I have already lived many lives in my lifetime. I graduated in 1976 from the drama department of New York City’s High School of Performing Arts. Through the early 1980's, I acted, sang and danced in various productions in New York, including a solo cabaret show at Kelly’s Village West and Tramps with John Wallowitch. During this time, I became heavily involved in the pro-choice movement, which led me to feel that I should become a lawyer to have a greater effect on the world. In September of 1982, I went to Rutgers School of Law. I graduated in 1985, and joined the litigation department of the New York office of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton. At Cleary I was very fortunate to extern at MFY Legal Services, and work on several landmark tenants rights cases. I left Cleary in 1991, after the birth of my first daughter, Mariel. For several years after leaving the law, I worked as a decorative painter while building my portfolio as an artist and illustrator. Shortly after the birth of my second daughter Samantha, in 2001, I sold my decorative painting business to focus on fine art and illustration. I feel extremely blessed to have had so many wonderful experiences on so many diverse paths.
